About Me

I served as a full-time faculty member at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio for over 30 years and during much of that time also was Chief of the Research Service at the associated VA Hospital.  I am presently on the Nephrology Staff of Shaare Zedek Hospital in Jerusalem.  My practice includes all aspects of Clinical Nephrology including Hypertension, Acute Renal Failure, Chronic Renal Failure, End-Stage Renal Disease, Fluid and Electrolyte Disorders, Bone and Mineral Metabolism and the effect of systemic illness on the Kidney.  I have published over 100 articles in peer-reviewed journals on all aspects of clinical and experimental renal disease including studies of kidney cells in culture.  My group was the first to show, by using an angiotensin receptor antagonist, that much of the hypertension in dialysis patients is angiotensin II dependent.
